Our Story
In the late 19 th century the LORD stirred the hearts of a group of Bible believing
Christians to come together Sunday mornings to worship our God. It was not long thereafter, in
the year 1897, that Hornerstown Baptist Church was formed and constituted together. Located
in Cream Ridge, NJ. Hornerstown Baptist Church has remained faithful in its 125-year history to sound biblical doctrine, diligent discipleship of her members, and boldly testifying to the salvation and eternal life
offered in the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the years ahead our goal and vision
remains the same, to be a pillar of light from heaven to a people dwelling in darkness, shining
forth the “light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Cor. 4:6).
Confident of this we are, for if Christ has sustained this church, his body, for over a century;
surely, he shall increase us by his Spirit in the years ahead.

Pastor John Burlaga
“Pastor John believed upon Christ for salvation, being baptized into the faith, becoming a Christian during his sophomore year of College while studying Civil Engineering at Mercer County Community College. Later that year the Lord impressed upon Him through his Holy Spirit a desire to enter the Pastoral Ministry, and so he transferred to Cairn University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Youth and Family Ministry in 2017. Afterwards John then furthered his Pastoral education by attending the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, graduating in 2021 with a Masters of Arts in Biblical Counseling, and completing a Thesis project entitled, Power From Heaven: The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Life of Jonathan Edwards. John is married to Hannah, who serves in the United States Air Force at Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst, and a graduate of Rowan University holding a Bachelor’s in Psychology, and gifted with a love for teaching children the gospel and Scripture memorization. John and Hannah have two daughters: Evelyn and Eleanor, who both brightens their days. John and Hannah enjoy spending their time together by having “Family Days”, watching movies, reading books, playing games like Dutch Blitz and Catan, and are typically around their extended family. In Pastor John’s free time, he enjoys visiting church members, playing baseball, following the New York Yankees, going on runs, and volunteers as a County Committee Member of the Ocean County GOP.”
